Man sentenced to 10 years jail for sexually assaulting minor girl

Mysuru:  City’s Special POCSO Court has sentenced a 37-year-old man to 10 years jail and has imposed a fine of Rs. 34,000 after the accused was found guilty of sexually assaulting a minor girl.

The accused who was sentenced is Virupaksha, a resident of Benakanahalli village in T. Narasipur taluk.  About two-and-a-half years ago, Virupaksha, who entered the house of the 16-year-old victim when she was alone, threatened her with life and sexually assaulted her. The accused had sexually assaulted the minor girl many times which led to the girl becoming pregnant.

Based on the complaint lodged by the girl’s father, T. Narasipur Police, who had registered a case, arrested the accused, conducted investigation and had submitted a charge-sheet to the Court. The DNA Test also confirmed that Virupaksha was the father of the girl’s baby.

Judge B.S. Jayashree, who heard the arguments from both sides and based on medical reports, sentenced the accused to jail and ordered the District Legal Service Authority (DLSA) to provide Rs. 3 lakh compensation to the victim.

Special Public Prosecutor B.C. Shivarudraswamy argued on behalf of the Government.
