Man sentenced to life for killing wife

Mysore/Mysuru: The 5th Additional District and Sessions Court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment after he was found guilty of murdering his wife.

The man, who was convicted, is Kumar, a resident of Honnenahalli village in Periyapatna taluk.

Details: Kumar had married Prema of the same village 18 years ago. He used to always doubt his wife and harass her mentally and physically. The village elders had kept on advising him to lead a normal life.

On Nov. 22, 2023, Prema had gone to attend the marriage ceremony of her relative at Bylapura Temple in K.R. Nagar taluk and returned in the evening only to be assaulted by Kumar. On the same night, when Prema was sleeping, Kumar had strangled her to death with a towel.

Periyapatna Police, who had registered a case, conducted investigation and had submitted a charge sheet to the Court.

Judge K.N. Roopa, who took up the case, heard the arguments from both sides, found accused Kumar guilty of murdering his wife and sentenced him to life imprisonment besides imposing a fine of Rs. 1.25 lakh.

Public Prosecutor B.E. Yogeshwar argued on behalf of the Government.
