Man shoots wife to death in Kodagu; surrenders to Police

Virajpet: A duel between a couple ended with the man shooting his wife to death and later surrendering at Police Station along with the gun.

The incident took place at Betoli village near Virajpet and the deceased is Shilpa (Seethamma), former Taluk Panchayat member. She was 36. The accused is 43-year-old Nayakanda Bopanna, a coffee planter. He had reportedly shot his wife Shilpa on her chest in the kitchen and later arrived at Virajpet Police Station along with the gun and surrendered before the Police.

Bopanna and Shilpa, who were in love had got married.   The couple has two daughters, one pursuing her PU education and the other studying in 7th standard. Differences in opinions cropped up between them in recent days leading to frequent quarrels which had gone to the extent of both seeking divorce, it is learnt.

Virajpet Town Police, who have registered a case in this regard, are investigating.
