Mangaluru’s Andria wins State Women’s Chess title

Andria L. D’souza of Mangaluru, the second-seed in the Tournament, won the Karnataka State Women’s Chess title by securing six points from seven rounds on the concluding day of the three-day Karnataka State Women’s Chess Championship-2018, conducted by Mysore Chess Centre under the aegis of UKCA jointly with the Rotary Club of Mysore West at the Ursu Gymkhana premises here yesterday.

Incidentally, Andria shocked the top-seed Isha Sharma in the sixth round to emerge as the sole leader.

WCM Isha Sharma with 5.5 points (31.5) finished second, while Sangana Raghunath of Bengaluru with 5.5 points (29.5) secured the third place. Mahima Sheringar of Udupi finished fourth with 5 points.

The prizes to the winners were given away by A. Hanumantha, Hon. Secretary, UKCA, Kavana Mallanna, former State Champion. Also present on the occasion were M.M. Biddappa, H.T. Raviprakash and M. Nagendra, Vice-President, UKCA and Director, Mysore Chess Centre.
