Manipal Hospital to strengthen advanced digestive and liver care in Mysuru Region
Mysore/Mysuru: Digestive and liver disorders are increasingly being seen across Mysuru and neighbouring districts, a quiet but growing health concern that often goes unnoticed until symptoms become difficult to ignore.
Recognising the urgent need for specialised, accessible care, Manipal Hospital Mysore announced the launch of the Manipal Institute of Gastro Sciences (MIGS) at a press conference in city recently. MIGS brings together medical gastroenterology, hepatology, surgical gastroenterology and advanced interventional endoscopy within a single, coordinated clinical framework.
By integrating early diagnosis, advanced diagnostics and complex interventions under one roof, the Institute aims to simplify patient journeys and strengthen Mysuru’s role as a regional hub for advanced digestive and liver care.
As part of this expansion, Dr. A.K. Satheesh Rao, Senior Consultant – Medical Gastroenterology & Hepatology, has joined Manipal Hospital Mysore, further strengthening the hospital’s expertise in digestive and liver diseases.
He joins an experienced team that includes Dr. Vasudev Pai Hosdurg, Senior Consultant – Surgical Gastroenterology & HPB Surgeon and Dr. R. Nischay, Consultant – Medical Gastroenterology & Hepatology.
Together, the integrated team offers specialist-led, coordinated care for a wide range of gastrointestinal and liver conditions, supported by advanced diagnostic and interventional services such as colonoscopy, upper GI endoscopy, endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) and ERCP.
Highlighting the importance of early detection, Dr. Satheesh Rao said, “Digestive and liver disorders often progress silently until they reach an advanced stage. Through the Manipal Institute of Gastro Sciences, our goal is to shift the focus toward early diagnosis and proactive management, supported by advanced diagnostics and endoscopic interventions available locally in Mysuru.”
Emphasising the need for integrated care, Dr. Vasudev added, “With extensive experience in managing complex gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary surgeries, I have seen how delayed diagnosis often leads to advanced disease requiring major surgical procedures. Early identification of symptoms and timely specialist evaluation can significantly reduce the need for complex surgeries. Through an integrated institute-led approach, we aim to detect conditions earlier, intervene appropriately, and, wherever possible, prevent disease progression that necessitates surgical treatment.”
Speaking on rising lifestyle-related conditions, Dr. Nischay noted, “With digestive disorders linked to modern lifestyles on the rise, structured and specialist-led care pathways are more important than ever. The Institute enables patients to access advanced endoscopy, hepatology and gastroenterology services under one roof, ensuring timely and comprehensive treatment.”
The Manipal Institute of Gastro Sciences aims to expand access to specialised gastroenterology services for patients across Mysuru, Mandya, Kodagu, Chamarajanagar and neighbouring regions where advanced digestive and liver care has traditionally required travel to metro cities.
