Mysuru: Marking International Women’s Day, Sri Jain Shwetambar Terapanth Mahila Mandal had organised a seminar on ‘Women Empowerment’ at Terapanth Bhavan on M.G. Road here this morning.
Speaking as the chief guest, Trishika Kumari Wadiyar reflected the contributions of women in the making of modern Karnataka, formerly Mysore State.
Recalling the legacy of Mysore Maharajas, she said that Maharanis Lakshmammanni, Devarajammanni and Vani Vilasa Sannidhana and others had contributed greatly to the betterment of Mysore.
“Today we are very fortunate to be in a society where voices of women are starting to be heard, yet there are many women who can’t voice out their pain. We must stand by them and be their voice,” said Trishika Kumari.
Continuing, she said, “Our stance in society depends on what we teach our children, the upbringing we give them. To every girl child, marriage and raising a family must not be the ultimate goal in life.
But most importantly, to every boy child we must help them develop lasting beliefs in equality and respecting women in our society. My husband recognises this and has never shown discrimination of any kind. He is in fact one of the main reasons that I am here standing on this podium. Hence, I urge all parents to start with their children and our country will definitely be a safer and happier place not just for women but the society as a whole.”
On the occasion, a short play was enacted to spread message on women empowerment.
Mandal Chairperson Vanmala Nahar, Vice-Chairperson Sudha Nolhk, Secretary Khamosh Mehar and others were present.
