Mysore/Mysuru: The two-day State-level Masters Wrestling Tournament, organised jointly by Mysuru Masters Games Association and Mysuru Game Association of Karnataka, began at the Gymnasium Hall at University of Mysore Pavilion here yesterday. The event was inaugurated by District Minister S.T. Somashekar.
Speaking as the chief guest on the occasion, MLA L. Nagendra said that this is the first time that Mysuru is hosting the State-level Masters Wrestling Tournament.
Pointing out that 150 senior wrestlers from across the State have arrived in city to take part in the Tournament, he said that 50 more are set to join later in the day. Nagendra appealed the District Minister to host such tournaments in all parts of the State in order to encourage elder citizens to get active in sports and games.
The tournament is being held under three different age groups — 31-40 years, 41-50 years and 51-60 years. Mysuru Masters Games Association President Vijaya Ramesh, Vice-President Lokesh, Joint Secretary Naganna, Chief Technical Officer Srinivas Gowda, Technical Officer G. Benaka Prasad, Maj. (retd.) Sridhar and others were present.
The valedictory of the event will take place later today.
