‘Matrupoorna’ scheme: MLA S.R. Mahesh finds fault in implementation process

Mysuru: Observing that the State Government’s flagship programme ‘Matrupoorna’ scheme won’t be a success, K.R. Nagar MLA S.R. Mahesh has said that the Government should instead credit the money meant for the meals directly to the Bank account of pregnant and lactating women. Addressing a press meet at Pathrakartara Bhavan here yesterday, Mahesh maintained that the pregnant women and lactating mothers cannot go to Anganawadi Kendra travelling 2-3 kms especially in rural areas to get their nutritious food under the scheme.

Noting that pregnant and lactating mothers were hesitant to come out of their homes as they feared infection, he said that the most beneficiaries do not agree to have their food outside their home as it was a crucial period for them.

Terming the scheme as an election gimmick, he alleged that the scheme may have now been introduced for the benefit of someone. Suspecting kickback in the implementation of the scheme, Mahesh said that he would raise the ‘Matrupoorna’ scheme issue in the Winter Legislature Session at Belagavi.

He reiterated that it would be better if the Government directly credited Rs. 21 which is the cost of nutritious meals, directly to the bank account of beneficiaries.

Referring to the political scenario in the State, Mahesh said that the people were fed up with Congress and BJP rule and were now looking forward to the JD(S) as their only hope.

Stating that the party will launch campaigns highlighting the failures of the Congress and BJP, Mahesh maintained that Mysuru region will see a direct contest between the Congress and JD(S) in the 2018 Assembly polls.
