Mysore/Mysuru: Newly elected Mayor Shivakumar and several newspaper agents of city were felicitated at a programme organised by Dalita Pragatipara Sanghatanegala Okkoota at Pathrakartara Bhavan here on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, Mysuru District Journalists Association (MDJA) President S.T. Ravikumar (RK) said that newspaper agents and distributors rendered yeoman service to the society during the COVID pandemic that struck the world over two years ago.
Noting that newspaper agents have no holidays and they work irrespective of weather conditions, he said that they will be on their job even before the world wakes up. Newspaper agents deserve due recognition and the Government, associations and organisations should consider them for conferment of awards, RK added.
Newspaper Agents Welfare Association President J.S. Homadeva said that the Association has submitted a plea to the Deputy Commissioner (DC) seeking to allow making of a tableau under the caption ‘Patrike Ulisi, Patrike Belesi, Patrika Vitarakarannu Rakshisi’ to be displayed during Dasara Jumboo Savari. A memorandum has also been submitted to the Chief Minister in this regard, he added.
Mayor Shivakumar, Newspaper agents J.S. Homadeva, B. Suresh, Gangadhar, Jayachandra, Srikanth, Abdul Wajid, Eshwar Prasad, Mahadeva and Deepak were felicitated on the occasion.
MDJA General Secretary M. Subramanya, Okkoota Convenor P. Raju, Ashokapuram Krishna, Zakir Hussain, V. Manjunath, K. Shivakumar, Anthony Johnson and others were present.
