Officials of the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) were in for a surprise yesterday when the Rs. 810 crore proposals for various projects in Mysuru sent by them did not figure in the Budget announcements made by Chief Minister Siddharamaiah yesterday.
Interestingly, Siddharamaiah and District Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa had shown keen interest in various developmental works and had asked MCC officials to send project reports for fund allocation in the Budget. Following this, Mayor M.J. Ravi Kumar, along with the District Minister and MCC officials, inspected various projects including the pending ones and had sent a Rs. 810 crore proposal for 14 projects.
Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa had even given assurance to MCC of including the projects in the Budget.
Chief among the 14 projects include Rs. 150 crore for construction of Lansdowne Building, Devaraja, Vani Vilas and Mandi Markets and land acquisition for Hale Unduvadi Drinking Water project, Rs. 75 crore for construction of waste management units at Rayanakere, Kesare and Sewage Farm, Rs. 30 crore for construction of an underpass near Kukkarahalli Lake and widening of the existing road from Jayanagar under-bridge on New Kantharaj Urs Road, and Rs. 60 crore for completing the stalled aquarium project and for multi-level parking near Mysuru Zoo.
Speaking to Star of Mysore over non-allocation of funds, MLA Vasu said: “Yes, the Mysuru City Corporation had sent a proposal. But the CM might have thought that he would be accused of sanctioning funds only for the projects in his home town. But the Chief Minister has shown keen interest in implementing all the 14 projects through various departments.”
