Mysore/Mysuru: If everything goes as per plans, the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) limits will sport spic-and-span parks covered with greenery.
The MCC has proposed to draw funds available with industries under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) for developing parks and circles with the aim of enhancing the beauty of the city and giving more lung spaces to its residents.
MCC Commissioner G. Lakshmikantha Reddy has appealed to industries and corporates to come forward to maintain the parks and circles.
A meeting to this effect was held at Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar Hall on Tuesday where ways and means were discussed to maintain the parks under the MCC limits through CSR funds. The development agenda included development of parks and maintaining them.
In the past, industries, business houses, hotels and other commercial establishments had evinced interest in developing parks and circles and had approached the MCC. Following this, a couple of parks and circles were handed over to them and they are being maintained well, the meeting noted. Many residents of Mysuru spend quality time inside the parks and are also maintaining their health by indulging in physical activities inside the parks. Many parks have been developed in this direction and gym equipment have been installed so that physical activities are encouraged, the Commissioner said.
Though the MCC can develop parks, it wants the community to contribute towards the development. The MCC has over 529 bigger and smaller parks under its limits and a few of them have been developed by the MCC using its own funds. Many parks are in need of development and companies can contribute to the same, he said.
The MCC is in talks with those who had already come forward to develop parks and circles. If other companies, individuals, educational institutions, corporates and even associations also wish to contribute, they can approach the MCC and be a part of the development subject to conditions laid down by the MCC, the Commissioner noted.
Representatives from Mahalakshmi Sweets, JSS Hospital, HDFC Bank, ITC, Agarwal Samaj, Apollo Hospital and other institutions were present during the discussion.
