Mysore/Mysuru: The Mysore District Athletic Association (MDAA) and sports enthusiasts remembered the contributions of former MLA Vasu and Chamarajanagar MP V. Sreenivasa Prasad, who passed away recently.
Speaking at a condolence meeting organised by MDAA at Lions Bhavan near University of Mysore Athletic Grounds (Oval Grounds), senior journalist Amshi Prasanna Kumar said though it was commonly known that politicians rarely encourage sports, but Prasad and Vasu were an exception who promoted sports and encouraged sports persons to achieve great heights at State, National and International levels, which was also their desire.
Department of Studies in Physical Education, University of Mysore, Director Dr. C. Venkatesh remembered the contributions of both Prasad and Vasu to sports since the time of his predecessors- Chikka Venkatappa (Dr. C. Venkatesh’s father) and Dr. C. Krishna.
Former International Athlete and MDAA President S. Somashekar, said Vasu, who also served as the MDAA President, wanted to establish a sports university in Mysuru and had also raised the matter in the Assembly It was our responsibility to see that Vasu’s dream was realised in the coming days.
Somashekar also mentioned that Prasad, when invited, would actively take part in the sports event to encourage the athletes.
Former Director Dr. C. Krishna, who spoke on the occasion, said that he knew Prasad since 1968 and Vasu from 1971 adding that Prasad was a footballer who founded Siddartha Sports Club in Ashokapuram, that is active still. He also said that Prasad was the reason for many getting jobs in sports quota.
MDAA Secretary Srikanth, Vice Presidents C.K. Muralidharan and Chainsingh Rajpurohit, Joint Secretary Sampangi, Treasurer Umesh, PG Sports Council Assistant Director T.S. Ravi and others were present.
