Highlighting the role of media in maintaining social balance, Karnataka Food and Civil Supplies Committee Member Harihara Anandaswamy observed that media should not play politics in the name of journalism.
Addressing a press meet at the TB in the town recently, Harihara Anandaswamy alleged that several vested interests, using the visual media, had created a ruckus at the State-level Seva Dal Meet held in the town recently.
He further alleged that the owner of a local news channel, office of which was located in the Congress office building, had the audacity to rebuff him. Also the channel owner refused to cover cultural and other programmes unless the organisers rent out Shamiana and furniture from him. If this is the situation, then who can change the society, he questioned and added that media should be a responsible player in bringing about a positive change in the society.
Former ZP Member and Taluk Veerashaiva Samaja President Handanahalli Somashekar and former ZP Member C.T. Rajanna too spoke on the occasion.
Devaraj Urs Backward Classes Development Corporation Director A.P. Swamy, ZP Member Savithramma Manju, TP President Padmamma, District Congress Seva Dal Organiser Geetha, CMC Members Zakir Hussain and Shivakumar and others were present.
