Mysore/Mysuru: Maintaining that theatre is one of the best means of communication, noted actor and theatre personality Mandya Ramesh said that Medical, Engineering and other professional students too should get theatre training.

He was speaking at the vale-dictory of the 15-day theatre and dance training camp organised by Desiranga Samskrutika Samsthe in association with the Directorate of Kannada and Culture and Maharani Women’s College of Commerce and Management, at Kirurangamandira in Kalamandira premises here recently.

Maintaining that theatre edu-cation makes us complete, he opined that engaging with theatre and arts will help in eradication of social inequality to a large extent.

Noting that reading and social engagement play a key role in art expressing itself, he recalled the achievement of thespian Dr. Rajkumar. He pointed out that though Dr.Rajkumar was less educated, he had a vast knowledge of Culture, Mythology, History and Literature, which he acquired from experts in the field. A great actor that he was, Dr. Rajkumar prepared himself for every role or character that he played and also used to learn about its background, he said.

Referring to Primary and Secondary Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa’s state-ment that Music teachers will be appointed, Ramesh wondered how many knowledgeable teachers the Minister would get.

Kannada and Culture Joint Director V.N. Mallikarjunaswamy said that learning Folklore, which forms the basis for many art forms, is like earning a special qualification. He called upon the students to make best use of such camps which are both refreshing and entertaining.

Students, who participated in the camp, presented folk arts such as Kamsale, Dollu Kunitha, Puja Kunitha and Kolata.

College’s Kannada Department Head Dr. K.E. Govindegowda, Desiranga Samskrutika Samsthe Secretary Krishna Janamana, Convenor Dr. Dinamani and others were present.
