G. Pranathi, a seven-year-old girl, has brought laurels to Mysuru by winning Gold Medal twice at the State-level Wushu Championship.
A resident of Gayathripuram, Pranathi is climbing up the ladder of success, beyond her age. Daughter of Photographer S.D. Giridhar and L. Sangeetha couple, she is a first standard student at Police Public School in city.
Born on Nov. 17, 2014, Pranathi bagged her first Gold Medal in the Sub-Junior (20 kg) category in the State-level Championship organised by Wushu Association of Karnataka at Bagalkot in December 2020, when she was just 6.
Last year, she bagged her second Gold Medal in Sub-Junior category of the 20th Karnataka State Wushu Championship held at Moodabidri. With this win, she has gained entry to the National Championship to be organised by Wushu Association of India at Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu, between Mar. 25 and 30. She will take part as a representative of Karnataka.
Pranathi is trained under M.K. Ashif of Wushu Association of India at Chamundi Vihar Stadium in Nazarbad. She started her training when she was just a three-year-old kid. Apart from Wushu, Pranathi has interest in music and swimming.
Pranathi said she developed interest in Wushu after she began training. Pointing out that she had taken part in many Championships, she said that her parents were behind her success. Noting that she is very keen to excel in studies as well, she said she wants to become an IAS or IPS officer when she grows up.
Pranathi’s father Giridhar said that his daughter is the pride of entire Mysuru city. Asserting that Pranathi is being trained for Olympics, he said that apart from her academics, she spends two hours a day at home on her favourite sport.
Pranathi’s coach M.K. Ashif said that Pranathi has excelled beyond her age.
Maintaining that Pranathi is more active than her classmates in school, he said that the little girl is making untiring efforts to excel at the National and International level. He pointed out that Pranathi is the youngest girl to win Gold Medal at Wushu State-level Championship twice.
