Mysuru: Gayana Sabha, Mysuru, had organised memorable Hindustani music concerts at Sri Nadabrahma Sangeetha Sabha in city recently.
Aniruddh Aithal, a brilliant and promising young musician, and Ustad Hafiz Khan, an instrumentalist and a singer, presented vocal and sitar recitals respectively.
Aniruddh started the concert in raag Multani with traditional bandishes ‘Ye gokulagao’ in vilambitektal, and ‘Sundarasurajanava’ in dhrutteental. He mesmerised the audience with soulful rendering, with mercurial swaras and taans.
The next selection was raagpatdeep with popular bandishes ‘Dhandhanbhag’ in rupakataal and ‘Jhanana Jhananabajath’ in dhrutektaal. He also sang a very rare rangageethe ‘mokshasadana,’ before concluding the programme with a composition of Kanakadasa ‘Naanuneenuennadiruheenamaanava.’
He was accompanied on tabla by Pandit Bhimashankar Bidanur and on harmonium by Deepak Nagannavar.
In the second session of the programme, Ustad Hafiz Khan presented the sitar recital. The gats in aalap, jhod, and jhaalaain raagmaarubihag were captivating.
Hafiz Khan is also an accomplished vocalist. After sitar, he sang a daasarapada ‘Narajanmabandaaga,’ and ended the evening’s programme with ‘Kaisekate dinraina’ in raag Bhairavi.
Pt. Bhimashankar was a good support on tabla. —Harsha
