Incident comes to light after two years; Varuna Police register case
Mysore/Mysuru: An incident of a mentally challenged woman being murdered by her own sister and brother-in-law has come to light after two years.
The deceased has been identified as Lakshmi of Chamarajanagar town and the accused have been identified as the victim’s sister Roopa and her (Roopa) husband Siddaraju. The duo had allegedly killed Lakshmi at Rayanahundi in Mysuru taluk and they have been accused of burying the body in the toilet pit.
Details: 47-year-old Hema, a resident of Chamarajanagar, had given her daughter Lakshmi in marriage to one Rajesh of Tiruvannamalai at Tamil Nadu in 2012. Lakshmi has a seven-year-old son. As Lakshmi became mentally unstable about five years ago, her husband Rajesh, left her in her parents’ house and did not come back since then.
Hema’s second daughter Roopa, fell in love with Siddaraju and married him. They were staying in a rented house at Rayanahundi. Hema, who kept Lakshmi’s son with her, sent Lakshmi to Roopa’s house. In 2020, Roopa informed her mother that Lakshmi had gone missing and after a few days Siddaraju who left for Mangaluru for work had gone missing. A missing complaint was lodged at Chamarajanagar Police Station.
Meanwhile, Hema, who came to know that Chamarajanagar Police had traced Siddaraju, contacted Roopa and told her that her husband Siddaraju has been traced by the Police. When Hema expressed that Lakshmi was still missing, Roopa is said to have told Hema that it has been two years since Lakshmi had gone missing and it was a closed chapter now. Roopa is said to have told Hema that two years ago during Dasara, Lakshmi had removed her clothes and was screaming. Fearing that their respect would come to the street, Siddaraju had tied her hands and legs, gagged her and had locked her inside the house. But when they returned back, they found Lakshmi was dead and they buried her body in the toilet pit behind their house at Rayanahundi. Roopa also told her mother Hema not to reveal it to anyone.
Hema, after coming to know about her daughter being murdered, lodged a complaint with Varuna Police, who have registered a case and investigating.
