Mysuru: Karnataka Dalit Vedike, marking its 10th anniversary, had organised a programme at Maharaja’s College Centenary Hall here on Sunday where pratibha puraskar was presented to meritorious SC/ST students and Karunada Bhushana award was conferred on achievers in various fields.
Speaking on the occasion, Sri Jnanaprakash Swamiji of Urilingapeddi Mutt, Gandhinagar, opined that value-based eduction alone can bring in phenomenal change in society. He said that marks scored in an examination do not quantify or qualify the human values of the person. He regretted that today’s politics has gone down to deplorable state with Legislators looking at resorts and not Vidhana Soudha. He quipped that had Kengal Hanumanthaiah known this then, he (Hanumanthaiah) would have built a huge resort instead of Vidhana Soudha!
He bemoaned that Democracy in the country had reached a point of extinction and the humble people were at the receiving end.
MCDCC Bank President G.D. Harishgowda asked youngsters to follow the principles of Buddha, Basava and Ambedkar.
Pratibha puraskar was presented to SC/ST students who had excelled in SSLC and II PU.
Karunada Bhushana award was conferred on MMC and RI retired Dean and Director Dr. Krishnamurthy, DSS Regional Convenor Devagalli Somashekar, Journalist Somaiah Maleyuru, Writer Dr. K.P. Mahadevaiah, Advocate Vishnuvardhan, Singer Lakshman and JD(S) District Treasurer Belawadi Shivamurthy.
