Mysuru: Mysore Grahakara Parishat, in association with District Administration, Mysuru City Corporation and Forest Department, launched the ‘Green Mysuru,’ project, by planting 100-120 saplings at Hyder Ali Park, Kesare 2nd Stage (Subash Nagar) here this morning.
MGP Secretary M.M. Shenoi said that it was an ambitious project of the MGP to plant nearly 3 to 5 lakh saplings all over Mysuru in the next five years. “We have launched this project under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner D. Randeep with whom we have held several meetings in the past. The City Corporation and the Forest Department has fully cooperated with us in this regard. We plan to plant saplings in 100 parks coming under Corporation limits,” said Shenoi.
Five varieties of saplings including Mahogany, Honge (Pongamia species), Shivani (Gmelina Arborea) , Kadu Badami (Terminalia catappa) and Tabebuia aurea were planted today, he said.
MGP President Saokar, Executive Committee Member Ashvini Ranjan, Environment Committee Member K.S. Venkatesh, area Corporator Asim Taj M.D. Salim and others were present.
