Mysuru: A Comprehensive Study on Traffic Congestion in Mysuru City Centre, initiated by the Mysore Grahakara Parishat (MGP), was formally launched by Deputy Commissioner D.Randeep at his office this morning.
The study will be anchored by R. Chandra Prakash and it will recommend solutions to de-congest the traffic in the Central Business District (CBD) that is already facing bumper-to-bumper traffic following exponential growth of vehicles.
According to Chandra Prakash, traffic congestion is rapidly increasing in the CBD and if urgent steps are not taken, the city will have traffic gridlocks everywhere very soon. Railway track-doubling and 6-laning of the highway between Mysuru and Bengaluru will encourage overflow from Bengaluru and exacerbate this problem.
To formulate a plan to prevent this disaster, one needs an in-depth study of the various aspects of traffic congestion in this area. Mentioning that previous studies were either out-of-date or not available to the public, he added that the traffic study will be submitted by May 2018. He said that he would seek inputs, data and suggestions from RTO, KSRTC, Railways, NGOs, educational institutions and include them in the study.

The DC also said that if required, he would write to the Executive Officer of Department of Urban Land Transport to help the MGP to gather data.
