Miniature Park to attract tourists

To be set up on Mysuru-Bengaluru Highway before tourists reach city

To inform visitors what awaits them on their Mysuru itinerary

Mysuru:  The Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC) has plans to set up a Miniature Park to attract more visitors to tourist spots in Mysuru.

The walk-through park of minuscule models has been planned at a prime location on the Mysuru-Bengaluru National Highway close to the city and the land for the same will be identified soon so that tourists, before seeing the actual attractive sites in Mysuru, could visit the Miniature Park to see what awaits them on their Mysuru itinerary.

Hand-crafted scale models of tourist destinations such as Mysore Palace, Zoo, Chamundi Hill, Brindavan Gardens and a few prominent heritage structures will come up at the Park.

“The Miniature Park will serve as information centre and a tourist attraction,” explained H.P. Janardhan, Deputy Director, Tourism Department, Mysuru.

“The Department has already discussed the proposal with Tourism Minister S.R. Mahesh. If the proposal is accepted, then the Department will make a list of models that need to be incorporated in the Park,” he added.

One of the reasons why the Department is looking at new proposals for Mysuru was to bring about newness to tourism sector, adding new sites in a bid to encourage tourists to extend their stay here.

The stakeholders’ grouse is that tourists were using Mysuru as a transit point with a day’s visit and moving to hill stations as the city and its surroundings lacks shows or attractions  after dusk.

Sericulture Museum

Sericulture Museum is another initiative of Tourism Department and the Department is planning to join hands with Sericulture Department to portray the genesis of silk and how the fabric is produced from silkworms and made into a finished product.

Around 60 percent of raw silk is produced in Karnataka and is most sought after.

Mysore Silk, produced by KSIC, is a prime silk brand and tourists here often buy silk products, especially sarees. To help them understand how silk is produced, the Sericulture Museum has been proposed.
