Mysuru: In separate incidents, miscreants in the guise of Police officials have robbed two senior citizens of their gold jewels worth about Rs.71,000 in city yesterday.
In the first incident, 62-year-old Rangaswamy, a resident of Aravindanagar, was walking near Mahadeshwaraswamy Temple in the locality at about 10.30 am, when two miscreants in the guise of Police officials approached him and introduced themselves as Police officials. They (miscreants) told Rangaswamy that there has been an increase in chain snatching incidents in city and asked him not to wear gold jewels while walking alone.
The miscreants asked him to remove his gold chain and finger ring and the miscreants kept the gold ornaments in a handkerchief, tied a knot, gave it back to Rangaswamy and left the place. When Rangaswamy went home and opened the knot of the handkerchief, he did not find his gold ornaments in it and came to know that he was robbed.
In the second incident, 70-year-old Dattatri, a resident of Jayanagar 13th Cross and a retired employee of BEML, has been robbed in the same way when he was proceeding on the 11th Cross in Jayanagar. The miscreants have robbed him of his eight gram gold chain.
