Mithun Chakraborty to receive Dadasaheb Phalke Award

New Delhi: Legendary actor Mithun Chakraborty will be honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award for the year 2022.

The announcement was made yesterday by Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister of Railways, Information Technology and Information Broadcasting, in his post on X.

He wrote, “Mithun Da’s remarkable cinematic journey continues to inspire generations! Honoured to announce that the Dadasaheb Phalke Selection Jury has decided to confer this award on legendary actor Shri Mithun Chakraborty Ji for his distinguished contribution to Indian cinema.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi too congratulated Mithun Chakrabarty on being conferred the prestigious Award.

The award will be presented to him during the 70th National Film Awards Ceremony scheduled to be held on Oct. 8.

Asha Parekh, Khushbu Sundar and Vipul Amrutlal Shah were part of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award Selection Committee.

“I don’t  know how to express this. I can’t cry, I can’t smile either. I am dedicating this award to my family and fans across the world,’ Chakraborty said.

Mithun, also known as Mithun Da, is an iconic Indian actor, producer & politician, recognised for his versatile roles and distinctive dancing style. He has taken on a diverse range of roles in his movies, showcasing action-packed characters to poignant dramatic performances. He has also made a significant impact in politics. He joined Rajya Sabha in 2014 as a Trinamool Congress nominee but resigned two years later. In 2021, he joined BJP ahead of West Bengal Assembly Polls.
