Mysore/Mysuru: Chamaraja MLA K. Harishgowda inaugurated the Mysuru Goldsmiths and Silversmiths Development Association at a programme held at Kannika Mahal on Ashoka road here recently.
Speaking on the occasion, the MLA said that the Vishwakarma community is known for its artisan skills since ages. Though technology is advancing by the day, he said that the skills and crafts of the Vishwakarma community are very much in demand even now.
Maintaining that there is a good demand for our sculptural and jewelry works throughout the globe, he said that Vishwakarma community should strive for sustenance of the age-old artistry and crafts that has been maintained successfully over the centuries.
Observing that Vishwakarma community members are born artisans, he said that the community, also known for its social service, should become educationally, socially, politically and economically strong.
Suresh Gold, who was named as the new President of the Association, was felicitated on the occasion.
Corporators Ramani and Lokesh Piya, Association Hon.President Raviprakash, Raghavendra and others were present.
