Mysuru: Chamaraja MLA Vasu released the 2018 calendar brought out by Mysuru District Newspaper Distributors Association at a programme organised at Pathrakartara Bhavan here this morning.
Also, a total of 28 meritorious children of the members of the Association who scored high marks in SSLC & PUC were presented Pratibha Puraskar.
Speaking on the occasion, Vasu emphasised on the need for proper guidance to children on choosing their career.
Regretting that human communication, human values and human relationship are at a loss in today’s world of internet and other modern technologies, Vasu pointed out that newspapers play a key role in promoting societal values.
Stressing on the importance of reading newspapers daily, he said that doing so will help the students to enrich their knowledge in almost all fields.
Vasu presented a Rs. 50,000 cheque to the Association, to be used for extending scholarship to needy students. The MLA further suggested setting up an Endowment Trust in memory of senior journalist Rajashekar Koti and institute an annual award for best journalist.
Senior newspaper distributor Nagaraj’s (popular known as MNR) daughter Suma Bharathi, who secured a Government medical seat at Adichunchanagiri Institute of Medical Sciences, was honoured and presented a Rs.10,000 cheque on the occasion.
Also, cheques were distributed to the family of ailing newspaper distributor Nagaraj of the city and to the family of a newspaper boy Chandru who was killed in a road accident recently. Assn. President Janardhan, Hon. President N. Nayak and MDJA President C.K. Mahendra were present.
