Mysore/Mysuru: With the deadline for withdrawal of nomination papers for the Legislative Council polls from South Graduates Constituency ending on May 30, a total of 19 candidates have remained in the fray, as only one candidate, an independent, withdrew nomination papers.
The Constituency comprising four districts of Mysuru, Mandya, Hassan and Chamarajanagar, will go to polls on June 13. Counting of votes will be taken up on June 15 and the results will be announced the same day.
The candidates who have remained in the fray are: M.V. Ravishankar of the BJP, Madhu G. Madegowda of the Congress, H.K. Ramu of the JD(S), Rafatulla Khan of SDPI, Vatal Nagaraj of Kannada Chaluvali Vatal Paksha, N. Veerabhadraswamy of Republican Party of India and the rest independent candidates, who also include Dr. B.H. Channakeshavamurthy of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Prasanna N. Gowda, who is backed by KRRS, AAP, DSS and other organisations.
Though Dr. Channakeshavamurthy had filed his nomination as BSP candidate, the Election Commission has considered his candidature as an independent.
The other independent candidates are: N.S. Vinay, C. Kavyashri, H.P. Sujatha, Dr. J. Arunkumar, Puttaswamy, K.P. Prasanna Kumar, M. Mahesh, Dr. J.C. Ravindra, N. Rajendra Singh Babu, S. Ramu and H.L. Venkatesh.
