Mysuru: The mobile phones among the many devices that humans have invented is causing lot of problems to mankind. The use or misuse of this instrument has led to people not even lifting their heads to talk and they have also lost the courage to speak in public, said Rangayana Director Bhagirathi Bai Kadam.
She was speaking at the Maharaja’s College Centenary Hall here yesterday at a function organised by the College to welcome the first year students and induction programme. Everyone has a unique talent. The mobile phone has curbed the ability to display such talents. We also have forgotten to identify and respect the feelings in ourselves. Hence, she asked the students to use less of modern technology and instead display the talents hidden within.
Bhagirathi Bai said that one should read stories, novels and biographies of great people that kindle the mind to gain knowledge. The youth in order to have a secure future must follow their heart and find their calling. Only then will they be successful, she said adding that parents who have given birth and the teachers will also be happy.
Life is not a bed of roses but also of thorns and the earlier the students and the youth understand it they will be able to face the challenges that it poses and make the life’s journey eventful, said Bhagirathi Bai.
Visually-challenged Kempahonnaiah, who bagged the 340th rank in the UPSC exam held recently, also inspired the students and told them as to how in spite of his handicap he was able to clear one of the toughest competitive exams in the country.
Maharaja’s College Principal Prof. B. Nagaraja Murthy and the College’s Welcome and Farewell Committee Coordinator Dr. P.T. Bharathi, teachers and students were present on the occasion.
