Shivamogga: Jyothi Raj alias Kothi Raj, a rock climber from Chitradurga, who had gone down the Jog Falls to retrieve the body of a man from Bengaluru and had gone missing on Feb.27, was rescued from atop a rock yesterday.
The Fire Brigade and Police personnel and the locals noticed him below Raja Falls and rescued him.
Sources said that Jyothi Raj had slipped into a small cave amidst the rocks and had sustained minor injuries resulting in him not able to climb up as the rocks were slippery.
He had to spend the whole night on the rock and tried to climb up yesterday morning when the rescue team and his friends from Chitradurga noticed his movement below the Raja Falls.
The rescue team had to use two drone cameras to trace him and later rescued him using rafts. The rescue operation lasted for three hours. As he was pulled up, a cheering crowd carried him to an ambulance, after which he was taken to a hospital in Shivamogga for treatment.
The rescue team consisted of five trained climbers each from Chitradurga and Davangere, members from General Thimmayya National Academy of Adventure, Bengaluru, Police personnel and staff of the Fire and Emergency Services.
