Monthly Music Programme at BVB Mysuru on May 18

Mysore/Mysuru: As part of its monthly music, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan (BVB), Mysuru Kendra, has organised a concert by Vid. Shankar Shanbhogue at BVB premises in Vijayanagar 1st Stage at 6 pm on May 18.

He will be accompanied by Raghunath on tabla, Shanmuga Sajja on keyboard and Gurudath Hunasooru on rhythm pad

Profile: Vid. Shankar Shanbhogue hails from Kalasa, Chikmagalur district and is a renowned name today in the field of Kannada devotional music and Sugama Sangeetha. He considers his mother as his first Guru who inspired him with the devotional bhajans she would sing at home. Shankar later on was initiated into the world of devotional music by B. Radha Krishna Baliga. His formal training under Pandit Mahabaleshwar Bhagavath, Guru Madhav Bhat, Pandit Ramarao Naik, Pandit Rajabhau Sontakke, evolved him into today’s one of the finest Hindustani Classical Music Singers adept in Khayal Singing in both Agra and Gwalior Gharanas. He continues his thirst for learning music to this day under the guidance of Pandit Parameshwar Hegde.

Shankar has performed many a concerts in India and abroad. His bhajan CD albums in Kannada and Konkani have become very popular. He has rendered his voice as a playback singer for many motion pictures and non-film musical recordings, has composed music for ballets, musical productions for National Games and Aero India Shows.

With the unique concept of Kavya Sangeetha (music with good poetry/ lyrical essence) and his strong urge to contribute his bit to the society, Shankar has selflessly offered his services to the Saatvika Cultural Foundation. Through this Foundation, Shankar takes time out to reach out to all segments of the society with non-commercial music concerts offered for people in Orphanages, Elderly Homes, for students in Schools & Colleges, for the general public in Cultural Centres, organised public events etc.

He has also opened Kavya Sangeetha Gurukula in Bengaluru where aspiring students of music are nurtured, guided and mentored free of charge.
