I fully endorse the views of Dr. Javeed Nayeem (SOM dated Sept.4) on restoration of heritage bridges in general and the Lushington (Shivanasamudra), Wellesley (Srirangapatna) and Kapila (Nanjangud) bridges in particular.
Given the loopholes and lapses in our administration set up and the dissonance prevalent among the powers that be, there is no guarantee that the work gets a better deal; so better it is to entrust the job to ASI for proper execution with greater care. No doubt, corporate sectors in and around the area may extend support in this endeavour as part of their CSR. It is imperative that we retain the age-old structures for posterity.
