T Narasipur: Unable to repay loans borrowed to support her family, a mother and two daughters entered into a suicide pact on Thursday and consumed pesticide tablets. While the mother and elder daughter died, the younger daughter escaped from the jaws of death.
The victims have been identified as Asha (30), a resident of Vatalpura near T. Narasipur and the wife of Nanjundegowda and her daughter Aishwarya (9). Aishwarya’s sister 6-year-old Deepika survived and she is now being treated at a hospital.
According to the Police and family members, Nanjundegowda was working as a cleaner of a private bus and he was an alcoholic. To make matters worse, he was not even going for his work since many months. Asha and Nanjundegowda had married 13 years ago and she was trying to meet ends with her drunkard husband.
Having no other choice, Asha had borrowed loans from Women’s Self-Help Group and she was unable to repay the loan as there was no income flowing to the house.
She had to support her two daughters. Though many times she tried to convince her husband, he was not ready to forgo his drinking habit.
As she was enquired about the pending loans, fearing embarrassment and insult, Asha decided to commit suicide along with her children. On Thursday, she came to T. Narasipur along with her children and purchased pesticide tablets. She consumed it and also made her daughters consume the same.
They later went to Mudukuthore Temple. Severely exhausted after consuming pesticide tablets, Asha collapsed as she was getting down from the bus at Mudukuthore while her daughters fell on the ground, gasping for breath and writhing in pain. Seeing this, public and a few passengers rushed them to a nearby Government Hospital.
While Asha was declared brought dead, Aishwarya died a little later. Deepika is now undergoing treatment. Talakadu Police have registered a case.
