Bettadapura: Increasing debts has forced a women and her daughter to commit suicide by consuming poison at Echuru village in Periyapatna taluk on Sunday. The deceased are Lolakshi (28) and her daughter Sandhya (10).
Lolakshi, a native of Doddabelalu village had married Suresh of Echuru village 10 years ago. Suresh, who owned two acre land, had taken loans to grow crops.
As the crops failed and unable to repay the loans, Lolakshi, after giving poison to her daughter, consumed the same on Sunday night. The neighbours, who saw the duo writhing in pain, rushed them to K.R. Hospital in Mysuru, where they died yesterday.
Bettadapura Police have registered a case in this regard and the bodies were handed over to the family members after post-mortem was conducted.
