Mysore/Mysuru: The 67th Akashvani Sangeet Sammelan (Music Conference), organised at Ganabharathi’s Veene Seshanna Bhavan in Kuvempunagar on Sunday under the joint aegis of Akashvani, Prasar Bharati and Ministry of Culture, featured ‘Mridanga Taranga’ music programme by Vid. H.L. Shivashankar Swamy and veena recital by Dr. S.V. Sahana.
Vid. H.L. Shivashankar Swamy, who began playing mridanga with ‘Brindavana Saranga’ raga, later played ‘Trisha’, ‘Chatushra’, ‘Kanda’, ‘Mishra’ and ‘Sankeerna’ ragas, which made the audience tune their heads to the magical music. He was accompanied by Sameer Rao on flute, Jyotsna Srikanth on violin, Sangeeth Thomas on keyboard, K. Adarsh Shenoy on tabla and Anush Shetty on dholak.
Dr. Sahana began her performance playing ‘Khamaj’ raga, a popular Indian classical raga from the Hindustani tradition, known for its romantic and playful mood. Dr. Sahana enchanted the audience by playing ‘Sarasiruha Nayane’ of Saint Thyagaraja’s ‘Amritavarshini’ raga.
She was accompanied by Arjun Kumar on mridanga and G.S. Ramanujam on ghata.
Overall, the ‘Fusion Music’ involving all the musicians of the concert captivated the audience for all the fineness of expertise and melody.
