Sir,
Dr. M.S. Natashekar, the city’s well-known ENT Surgeon who is equally well-known as a very capable singer himself, has in his recent article on the occasion of the 44th death anniversary of Mukesh, very beautifully portrayed the entry and growth of the legendary playback singer in the glamorous but highly competitive tinsel world (Star of Mysore dated Aug. 27).
Dr. Natashekar has in a nutshell not only traced the progression of Mukesh’s legacy of songs but has also described their spirit in relation to the theme of the different movies they appeared in, which is very noteworthy. This is something that ordinary music-lovers cannot do easily.
But I am not surprised that Dr. Natashekar has done it so ably because he himself is a gifted singer who has done justice to his love for music and particularly for Mukesh.
He has been entertaining Mysureans over more than three decades with his appearances in almost every one of the well-organised music concerts held in our city, especially the unique and legendary doctors’ music programme ‘Geeth Gaatha Chal’ year after year.
While his rendition of almost every singer’s voice is flawless it is when he sings the songs that Mukesh has sung that his best comes out. After hearing him for the first time at one of his programmes, my wife, who is a music-lover, remarked to me that if one listens to Dr. Natashekar with closed eyes it seems as if Mukesh himself is singing before us!
I would like to echo her sentiments and say that we Mysureans are most fortunate that the soul of Mukesh still resides in our own Mukesh who resides right here in our midst! Bravo Dr. Natashekar!
