Mysuru: Very soon, the long-pending multi-level parking facility opposite the Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens or the Mysuru Zoo will be a reality, said PWD and District In-charge Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa.
He was speaking to reporters after inspecting the Zoo this morning. The total land available for parking opposite the Zoo (where vehicles are now parked) is 3092 Sq.mts. The land has been leased out to the Zoo for parking by the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC).
It may be recalled here that Star of Mysore had on Friday, 26th May published an Abracadabra titled Parking Woes of our City – Animal world Outside Zoo by K.B. Ganapathy that highlighted the parking problems at the Zoo.
The Minister told reporters that 10 years back, a Detailed Project Report was prepared and then the cost was estimated at Rs. 30 crore that provided for parking to over 40 buses, 20 tempos, 250 cars and 500 two-wheelers at any given point of time.
“Very soon, I will hold a meeting with the Zoo and MCC authorities and decide as to who will bear the cost of constructing the parking facility. Whether it will be a joint venture of MCC and Zoo or it will be fully funded by the State Government,” he said.
The parking facility will have visitor’s plaza, ticket counters, toilets, cloak rooms, and a refreshment stall. This apart, a subway will be constructed to link the multi-level parking facility to the Zoo.
