Murder accused sentenced to five years jail

Mysuru: City’s 7th Addl. District and Sessions Court has sentenced a youth to five years rigorous imprisonment besides imposing a fine of Rs. 10,000 after the youth was found guilty of stabbing a man to death. The youth, who was sentenced, is 23-year-old Ayyan, a resident of Bamboo Bazar while the deceased is Pandiyaraj, also of Bamboo Bazar.

On July 29, 2023, Ayyan was fighting with his father Murugesh and brother-in-law Srivatsa in front of Savaani Transport behind Old RMC in Mandi Mohalla during which he (Ayyan) assaulted his father and brother-in-law with a knife. Ayyan, in a bid to kill Srivatsa, tried to stab him with a knife two to three times but Pandiyaraj, who was watching the fight intervened to stop the fight.

Irked over this, Ayyan stabbed Pandiyaraj on the chest resulting in Pandiyaraj bleeding profusely and breathing his last on the spot, which was confirmed during investigation. The then Mandi Inspector S. Nagesh, who had registered a case, conducted investigation and had submitted a charge sheet to the Court.

Judge M. Ramesha, who took up the case, heard arguments from both sides, found the accused guilty of the crime and sentenced him to 5 years jail besides imposing a fine of Rs. 10,000. Public Prosecutor K. Nagaraj argued on behalf of the Govt.
