Mysore/Mysuru: The 24th Anniversary of Sri Bhramaramba Sangeetha Vidyalaya, Mysuru, was celebrated in city recently.
Sri Hamsananda Swamiji of Sadhana Mandira was given a traditional welcome with Poorna Kumbha and vedic chants. Swamiji inaugurated the celebrations along with other invited guests.
Prof. S. Ayyappan, Chancellor of Central Agricultural University, Imphal, Manipur, was the chief guest. Shalini V. Murthy, Chairperson of the Vidyalaya, presided.
All the vocal and instrumental students of the Vidyalaya gave a vocal concert. They started the concert with the popular Navaragamalika varnam followed by Vandenishamaham, a composition of Mysore Vasudevacharya in Raga Hamsadhwani, Surasarasi Samudbhute, a composition of Srigowri Bhargava in Raga Kamala Manohari, Saraswati Namostute, a composition of GNB in Raga Saraswati, Sita Kalyana, a composition of Sadguru Sri Thyagaraja Swamy in Raga Kurinji and Tillana in Raga Sindhubhairavi, a popular composition of Violin Maestro Lalgudi G. Jayaraman.
Stage programme started with Vedic chanting by Shashidhar Sharma and Kusha Vasishta of Bengaluru. Violinist Nadayogi Mysore V. Ambaprasad, Vice-Chairman of the Vidyalaya, welcomed the guests and also described the evolution of the Vidyalaya and the contribution of its Founder-Chairman late G.V. Murthy.
Dr. C.A. Shreedhar, renowned Karnatak Flautist, Principal of Sri Lalitakala College (Fine Arts College), Mysore University and Dr. H.V. Nagaraja Rao, renowned Sanskrit Research scholar of Oriental Research Institute (ORI) fame, were bestowed with the title ‘Shreshta Acharya.’
Mridangist V. Raghunandana Bhargava, Executive Trustee, proposed a vote of thanks. Amritavarshini and Vishveshwara compered. This was followed by an instrumental programme ‘Vadya Vaividhya’ by the students of the Vidyalaya. They were accompanied by Vid. Mysore Natraj on mridanga and Vid. Mysore G.S. Kumar on ghata.
They started with Ashta Raga Malika Sarale, compiled by Nadayogi Mysore V. Ambaprasad followed by Prasanna Ganapate, a popular composition of Violin Samrat Mysore T. Chowdiah in Raga Bahudari, Narayanaachchuta, a composition of Annamacharya in Raga Mayamalavagowla, Varaleela Ganalola in Dheerashankarabharanam, a composition of Sadguru Sri Thyagaraja Swamy, Tillana in Mohana Kalyani Raga, a composition of Violin Maestro Lalgudi Jayaraman.
The next event was a Grand Flute Recital by Young Maestro C.S. Keshava Chandra, son and disciple of Shreshta Acharya Dr. C.A. Shreedhar. He was accompanied by Mysuru Vishveshwara Bhargava on violin, Malladi Aravind on mridanga and Vid. Mysore G.S. Kumar on ghata.
The first composition was a Varnam in Raga Chintamani, a composition of Dr. C.A. Shreedhar, followed by Vallabha Nayakasya, a popular composition of Sri Muthuswami Deekshitar, Nenarunchinaru, a composition of Sadguru Sri Thyagaraja Swamy in Raga Malavi, Sarojadalanetri, a composition of Sri Shama Sastry in Shankarabharanam.
Raga Shankarabharanam was taken for a detailed elaboration and swara prastara followed by tani avartanam. The recital concluded with Bhagyada Lakshmi Baramma, a very popular composition of Sangeeta Pitamaha Sri Purandara Dasa.
