Mysuru: The third annual Convocation of Karnataka State Gangubai Hangal Music and Performing Arts University will be held at Nityotsava Hall near Ballal Circle here in the first week of February.
Vice-Chancellor Dr. Sarvamangala Shankar said that there were a series of Academic Council meetings, which were held to discuss on holding the third Convocation. It is also the last Convocation for Dr. Sarvamangala, who will retire a few months after the function.
Dr. Sarvamangala said that the University authorities have suggested the dates Feb. 5, 6 or 7 to Governor Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala, who is the Chancellor of the University. “The Governor will give a date on which we will organise the Convocation,” she added.
The University has selected people who are exponents in music and performing arts, to be conferred Honorary Doctorates on the occasion. Out of the 9 music experts, three each were selected from Karnatak music (vocal), Hindustani music (tabla) and Karnatak music (mridanga) who will be conferred with Honorary Doctorates during the Convocation. The list has been sent to the Governor, who will constitute a three-member Committee to select one name from each category and the final approval will be by the Governor.
