Musical evening tomorrow

Mysore/Mysuru: ‘Raag Milan’ has organised a musical evening on Jan. 26 at 5.30 pm at Kalpa Kshetra auditorium, 581/1, 4th Stage, 1st Phase, Vijayanagar, 3rd Stage.

The evening will commence with a flute recital by eminent flautist of Mysuru, Ravi Shankar Mishra, followed by a violin recital by Indradeep Ghosh (Kolkata). The artistes will be accompanied on tabla by Pandit Gourisankar  (Texas).

The event will conclude with the album launch of ‘YATRA – My musical journey’ by Ravi Shankar Mishra, which is a soulful rendition of meditative music.

Sur Mani Ravi Shankar Mishra is one of the finest flautists of the young generation. He started his music lessons with his father Pandit Dinesh Chandra Mishra. In 1994, he was fortunate to be accepted as a disciple of flute maestro Pandit Nityanand Haldipur (Mumbai) who belongs to the lineage of legendary flautist Pandit Pannalal Ghosh. He has been fortunate to receive guidance from late Padma Bhushan Abdul Halim Jaffer Khan whom he reveres as his mentor and guide. He is a regular performer for Yoga students and music lovers. Ravi has performed extensively in India and abroad, he has also performed at UNESCO (Paris).

Pandit Gourisankar, born in a family of musicians, has been studying tabla since the age of 3, under the able guidance of his father Shiv Shankar Karmakar. Since 1979, he has been under the tutelage of Pandit Sanka Chatterjee. He is also an ‘A’ grade artiste of All India Radio (AIR). In 2008, he established the School of Indian Percussion and Music in Austin, Texas. He has accompanied eminent artistes, such as Hariprasad Chaurasia, Ronu Mazumdar, Rahul Sharma, Shahid Parvez and many more.

Titled as ‘Prince of Violin,’ Indradeep Ghosh is one of the premier violinist and one and only Indian Classical Violist of India and a trailblazer for the Maihar Gharana. He is one of the few Indian Classical Violinist and one and only Indian Classical Violist to play a unique, custom made five-string Violin and Viola with eight sympathetic strings. Over the years he has extensively performed all over the world and was featured in some notable events including the 10th Asia Festival in Barcelona, SXSW Music Festival at Austin, USA, Learn Quest Music Festival, Boston and many more. He is an ‘A’ grade artiste of All India Radio and performs regularly for National Radio and TV Channel in India. He has created new Ragas called Ganapati, Indradhanush and Hamsavahini.
