Sir,
Much has been written and spoken about grand Dasara illumination. But sadly the Mysore Palace illumination was very bad to say the least.
For those of us who are born and brought up in Mysuru and who have seen the old Palace illumination with incandescent bulbs, the present led bulbs are a disaster so to say.
The grandeur, the aura and the brilliant radiance of the illuminated Palace is no longer there. Earlier with the incandescent bulbs the sky above the Palace would glow with radiance which is now lacking.
Monuments like Mysore Palace which are among the most visited tourist sites in the world have to be maintained very well keeping in mind the legacy of the place. But sadly the Governments of the day have not given priority to safeguarding the rich heritage buildings in Mysuru.
Heritage sites like the Mysore Palace should be maintained in their original grandeur by regular upkeep and maintenance. Moreover the Government should not stoop to saving a few lakhs in terms of power bills by sacrificing the grandeur of this world famous monument.
There are many ways to be tight-fisted but when it comes to projecting our world famous Mysore Palace, let us not be penny wise and pound foolish.
I feel that earlier the bulbs were fixed very close to each other but over the years the alternate bulbs were removed to reduce the power consumption. Later with advancement of technology, I think they introduced LED bulbs.
Now the overall grandeur of illumination is lost on the magnificent Palace.
Hope the authorities would seriously look into this observation and rectify the same by restoring the original glory and grandeur of our Palace.
