Mysore Telecom Best Performing Circle in State

Mysuru: The Mysore Telecom District Secondary Switching  Area (SSA) consisting of Mysuru and Chamarajanagar Revenue Districts is one of the best performing SSAs in Karnataka which has earned around Rs.90 crore revenue last year and provided 4,000 voice connections, 3,000 broadband connections and 3,500 optical fibre networks, said BSNL Chief General Manager of Karnataka R. Mani.

He was addressing a press conference at the Regional Telecom Training Centre in T.K. Layout here this morning and said that BSNL Mysuru has undertaken large scale upgradation and additional deployment of mobile towers to BSNL network to meet the increasing demand of data users.

“Mysore Telecom has serviced all Gram Panchayats with high speed internet connections. This will help the people in the rural areas to get birth and death certificates in the GP offices itself without having to go to the Taluk Office or Nada Kacheris,” he said.

He said that to increase footprints in mobile services, BSNL Mysore has planned high speed mobile network in 112 places, out of which the existing 70 BTSs (Base Transceiver Stations) are already upgraded from 3G to 3.75G. It has also been planned to lay 700 KM access optical fibre cable.

“Fibre will be extended to door step of every customer so that any service including high speed internet will be provided to the customer on demand. Now, Mysuru TD is almost ready to extend Fibre To The Home (FTTH) connection to any customer who requires high speed internet,” said Mani.

The SSAs consisting of Mysuru and Chamarajanagar revenue districts is covering 10,000 square kilometres and serviced through 139 telephone exchanges. The SSA is having 50,000 landlines, 18,000 broadband and 6,500 optical fibre customers, he said.

Best performance

The Karnataka Telecom Circle earned more than Rs.2,000 crore revenue during 2017-18, which is the highest performance compared to other Circles in the country. It was awarded best in VAS (Value-added Service) revenue  with an operating profit of Rs.35 crore, he said.

Karnataka Telecom Circle services is spread over 347 cities/towns,and 21,992 villages in the State.

There are 10.5 lakh landline and 3.2 lakh broadband connections.  There are 72 lakh mobile connections and 21,200 leased lines, he said.
