The Mysore Tennis Club (MTC) in Chamarajapuram here, one of the primary Tennis Clubs in the country promoting the game of tennis, established in 1969, celebrated its Golden Jubilee at its premises here last evening.
The MTC has been producing talented tennis players who have gone on to represent the country in different levels from time to time.
Founded by tennis lovers M.H. Raja Rao, P. Pattabhiramaih, B.A. Belliappa, D. Vasantha Madhav, late N.C. Ponnuswamy, Sreenivasan and K.S. Chari in 1969, the Club grew from a humble beginning from having two clay courts, to the present six synthetic courts, one clay and two cement courts.
Top players like N.P. Raghuveer, Rohan Bopanna, Prahlad Srinath, R. Nagaraj, Neeth Devaiah, S.D. Prajwal Dev, Suraj R. Prabodh, Abhay Prakash, S. Prateek, D.R. Jayadeva, Poojashree Venkatesh, Dhruthi T. Venugopal, C. Vasisht, G. Bharat Raj, Swetha Devaaraj and Likitha Devraj are products of this Club who have gone on to represent the country in different levels.
The Golden Jubilee celebrations got off to a colourful start with K.T. Balakrishna, City Police Commissioner, Mysuru, inaugurating the celebrations by traditionally lighting the lamp.
On this occasion, the MTC authorities honoured the Founder-Members, P. Pattabhiramiah, Dr. N.M. Srinivas, Vasanth Madav, Sampath H.L.N. Urs, C.S. Rajan, and other office-bearers who had served the Club in different capacities. The Club authorities also honoured Police Commissioner K.T. Balakrishna on this occasion.
The upcoming players from the Club S.D. Prajwal Dev, Aryan Pathange, Arnav Pathange, G. Manish, R. Nagaraj and former players M.J. Charan, Sujay, Raghav Prasad, G. Bharat Raj and other players were also feted.
Winners of the competitions held at the Club in different age categories were also given prizes during the programme.
