Mysuru: After facing wrath from the University Grant Commission (UGC), the University of Mysore suspended its outreach programme which was extended to institutions located beyond its jurisdiction.
Sources said that the University took its decision based on the advice of Governor Vajubhai R. Vala, who is also the Chancellor of the University.
It may be recalled that the University of Mysore had received a notice from the UGC seeking an explanation on its outreach programme being extended to institutions beyond its jurisdiction.
It is said that the University Syndicate had also approved the decision to suspend the programme. However, the programme will continue in the institutions located within the University’s jurisdiction — Mysuru, Mandya, Chamarajanagar and Hassan.
It may also be recalled that UGC has de-recognised the course offered by city-based Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) on similar grounds of offering profession and technical courses without obtaining permission from the UGC.
