Mandya: Even as the farmers were relentlessly urging the Government for the crushing of sugarcane over the past few months, finally there is good news for cane growers as the Government has agreed to start crushing of sugarcane from Aug. 15 at Mysugar factory.
The State-run Mysore Sugar Company Ltd. (Mysugar), once a prominent Sugar Mill in Asia and now considered as a sick industry by the Board for Industrial and Financial Reconstruction, may commence crushing activities for the season from Aug. 15.
Industries Minister K.J. George visited the eight-decade old Mill recently and held talks with officials, farmers and local leaders.
Later, speaking to press persons, George promised to initiate steps to revive the Mill.
Maintaining that the dues to cane growers, who supplied their produce would be cleared before the commencement of crushing activities, the Minister said that the Mill would start crushing operations in August with the help of a boiler that is in operating condition and also the Mysugar Co-generation Unit would begin operations from Aug. 15
