Mysurean among two arrested for extorting money from sand traders

Rs. 75.70 lakh cash, two mobile phones seized

Davanagere: Davanagere Rural Police have arrested two persons including a Mysurean on charges of extorting money from sand traders and have seized Rs. 75.70 lakh cash, which they had extorted and two mobile phones from them. The arrested are Mysuru-based Imran Siddiq and Chitradurga-based Ashok alias Jimmy.

Meanwhile, sand trader Mubarak, in his complaint, had stated that he was involved in sand business lawfully after obtaining the permit.

But Imran and Ashok had threatened him of not allowing him to conduct the business if he (Mubarak) did not pay them Rs. 4 lakh every month by terming his sand business as illegal.

Following the complaint from Mubarak, Superintendent of Police (SP) C.B. Ryshyanth and Dy.SP B.S. Basavaraj had constituted a special team comprising Probationary IPS Officer H.N. Mithun, Davangere Rural Inspector Anganagowda Negalur and staff, who conducted an investigation, arrested the two accused and seized Rs. 75,70,000 cash, which they had extorted from sand traders.
