Bengaluru: The Heritage City of Mysuru will soon get a Cauvery River Gallery.
The Gallery is expected to showcase the life, culture and biodiversity along the river from its birth in Kodagu till it reaches the Bay of Bengal.
The exhibits at the Gallery would also include multimedia features and electronic display to provide the visitors an immersive experience of life and culture along the river, said the Chairman of Karnataka Knowledge Commission and former ISRO Chairman Dr. K. Kasturirangan.
Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru yesterday, he said that he had a talk with Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on the setting up of the gallery and a detailed project report will be prepared.
The Gallery would highlight the geological and ecological characteristics of the Cauvery River apart from projecting the social and cultural characteristic features of civilisation that have evolved along the river bank, he said.
The plan to set up the Cauvery River Gallery in Mysuru is not a new proposal but an old project that is being revived now. It may be recalled here that in 2016, Karnataka’s Tourism and the National Academy of Sciences of India (NASI) had signed a memorandum of understanding to set up a Cauvery River Gallery in Mysuru.
Then, the Tourism Department officials and NASI executives had decided to establish the gallery at the Karnataka Exhibition Authority (KEA) complex. The project was to be completed in six to nine months and it was expected to become a major tourist attraction. The project, however, was shelved for reasons best known to the officials.
Once established now, the Cauvery Gallery in Mysuru will be the third in the country. There is a Gallery for River Brahmaputra in Guwahati and River Ganga has a Gallery in Allahabad.
The Karnataka Knowledge Commission had recommended the establishment of the Gallery and it will provide inputs to the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) for the implementation of the project.
