Mysuru: The City Police foiled the ‘Mangaluru Chalo’ bike rally organised by BJP Yuva Morcha from Mysuru to Mangaluru, here this morning. The BJP youth wing, supported by the party, had asked its members to assemble at Kote Anjaneyaswamy temple from where the bike rally was expected to begin. With Section 144 clamped throughout the city, Police had barricaded the roads leading to Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple since yesterday night.
The Police had also restricted the entry of vehicles and pedestrians to the temple since 8 am with intelligence reports stating that the BJP activists and leaders might come in other vehicles or by walking to the spot.
At around 10.30 am, former Minister S.A. Ramdas arrived in a two-wheeler near the venue but was stopped. Later, the BJP activists tried to enter the restricted areas through Town Hall but the Police, who were deployed in large numbers, were able to stop the leaders and party activists.
They also took around 120 people including MP Pratap Simha, City BJP President Dr. B.H. Manjunath, BJP Corporators and others into preventive custody and were taken to the CAR Grounds.
