Mysuru district drops 4 places to 17th ranking

Mysore/Mysuru: Mysuru district, which was expected to come within the top 10 in the district wise rankings of second PU exam results this year, has once again fallen short of expectations and disappointed the academicians and other stakeholders, by slipping to 17th position. The district had bagged the 13th place in the rankings last year. But this year, despite the improvement in performance (83.13 pass percentage), the district has dropped four places and stands at 17th in the rankings.

A total of 33,876 students from the district had appeared for the exam, out of which 25,566 students have passed out, with the district recording a pass percentage of 83.13. Though the district had recorded a lower pass percentage(79.89) last year, it is intriguing why the district slipped to 17th position, despite improvement in performance. This is attributed to the lower percentage of pass in Arts stream (64.36) which has pulled down the overall pass percentage.

Out of 14,283 students in Science stream, who appeared in the district, 12,463 students passed out, with the district recording a high pass percentage of 87.26 in the stream.

In Commerce, 9,208 out of the 11,560 students who appeared for the exam, passed out, with the district recording a pass percentage of 79.65 in the stream.

As regards the Arts stream, the district performed rather poorly, by recording a pass percentage of 64.36, with 5,170 out of the 8,033 students who appeared for the exam, passing out.

While 11,188  out of 15,568  boys who appeared passed out, recording a pass percentage of 71.87, girls fared far better by recording a pass percentage of 85.2, with 15,653 out of the 18,308 girls from the district who appeared for the exam.
