Mysuru: The State Government’s ambitious canteen project — Indira Canteens — will come to CM Siddharamaiah’s home district by the dawn of the New Year.
Speaking to Star of Mysore yesterday morning, Deputy Commissioner (DC) D. Randeep said that 17 canteens will be set up in the district, out of which 11 will come up in the city and the rest will come up at other six taluk headquarters (one each) in the district — K.R. Nagar, H.D. Kote, Hunsur, Periyapatna, T. Narasipur and Nanjangud.
Pointing out that land identification for these canteens is in progress, the DC said that the sites will be finalised in a couple of days and the canteen construction work will commence thereafter. After that, the Government will decide on the launch date, he added.
In Bengaluru, the BBMP has implemented the canteen project by setting up Indira Canteens in almost all the wards.
In Bengaluru, breakfast is sold at Rs. 5 and lunch and dinner at Rs. 10.
The Government is planning to set up one Indira Canteen per one lakh population as there is a huge demand for the establishment of the canteens in the State, according to sources.
