Mysuru Division bags Overall Prize in Dasara Sports Meet

Bengaluru bags 2nd spot and Belagavi takes 3rd place

Mysore/Mysuru: The five-day Dasara Sports Meet in which over 27 sporting events were held at various places including Chamundi Vihar Stadium at Nazarbad here concluded yesterday with Mysuru Division securing 157 points to bag the overall prize.

Bengaluru Urban Division with 135 points stood second, Belagavi Division bagged 77 points and came third, Bengaluru Rural Division with 59 points stood fourth and Kalaburagi Division, which secured 17 points, was placed fifth.

Seven new records

In the CM Cup events, seven new records were created. While women sports persons created four new records, men created three new records.

Kalavathi Basappa, by throwing the discus to a distance of 41.7 mts, broke the previous 2014 record. Chaitra Devadiga broke the 2013 records in 3,000 and 1,500 mts running. Mysuru’s J. Pavithra created a new record in triple race event. B. Manush broke the 2013 record in shot-put, Bengaluru’s Harshit broke the 2013 record in High Jump and Mahanth broke the previous 2006 record in Triple Jump.

Special felicitation

 At the valedictory ceremony, 8-year-old Charvi and Pranita, who have made special achievements in international chess and Wushu respectively, were felicitated.

Belgaluru’s Shankarappa and Raichur’s Thimmappa, who had served for over 30 years as Markers and retired, were also felicitated. Additional Chief Secretary of the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports Dr. Shalini Rajneesh, Commissioner H.N. Gopalakrishna, nominated Corporator Jagadish, Dasara Sports Sub-Committee President K. Shivanand, Assistant Director Rohit Gangadhar, Vice-President Ramesh, Pailwan Ravi, Adventure Sports Committee President Subbanna and other Members were present during the  prize distribution.
